If you want to loose calories, the best way is to swear at anything and everything at the top of your voice. Topics include traffic jams, the slow drivers, the fast drivers, the stupid RJ who keeps blabbering, the rain, the empty fuel gauge, your reflection in the mirror and so on. At least by the time you get to work, you would be all refreshed with all the negative energy out of you and could step out from out of the car with a smile on your face.

Warning: Never do this exercise while giving a lift, espicially to your boss.

Jan,
Thanks for the great tips. Next time I am waiting to pick up a child from school or band practice, I will be making use of these.

I agree with Deb, that breathing exercises can be very good in the car. I just did a quick search and the first result had a few good breathing exercises. Here is the link: http://cas.umkc.edu/casww/brethexr.htm

Facial and breathing exercises (lift chin, deep breaths) - and various streching light exercises for upper body if stopped in traffic such as triceps: lift arm over head, bend as if to touch your back, guide upper arm slightly for deeper strech gently - careful, not warmed up to not overdo it.

And, there's always kegels.
